Cliffs and Cypress Trees

For Delaney’s senior portrait session we selected Torrey Pines State Beach, which is one of the prettiest spots in Southern California with its picturesque coastal scenery. This location consists of a plateau with cliffs that overlook the beach. One of the things I love most about Torrey Pines State Beach is the variety of different landscapes it has in such a small area. We kicked the session off at the top of the cliffs framing a few shots with the iconic cypress trees.

Hiking the Coast

Next we headed down the cliffs to the beach. It’s a bit of a workout, 20-30 minutes of a leg day, but so worth the next day’s  sore muscles. The afternoon sun turns the cliffs a beautiful yellow/orange color, which added a unique visual interest to the photos. It’s pure magic!

Sun, Sand, and Surfboards

Delaney’s love for surfing was an important element she wanted to add to her senior portrait session. We aimed to capture her passion without venturing into the chilly December waters. Instead we opted for a few fun moments along the shoreline, just enough to get her feet wet.

Sunset Glow

Finally, as the sun started to set, we climbed back up to the top of the cliffs. We captured the last bit of sunset glow on the stunning coastal vista. The perfect way to end a portrait session.
